Silk Screen

Yesterday Hans brought home something super cool!

The thing he's holding is the silk screen that was used in printing the artwork for the new CD cases of his and his friend Andrews music. It was even signed by the person who did the printing! An interesting fact the Hans told me is that even though the screen is actually made of polyester the technique is commonly called silk screening because originally the ancient Chinese use silk cloth. Right now Hans is debating were to place it on the wall because it does make such neat art!

Not so Conventional Cakes

Viola! Part 2 of my previous adventures!

The following Monday was as I said before very rainy. : P My swim teacher was unable to make it to class (probably because of the water), so she sent us instructions to meet in a computer lab to work on swim homework. Then I had a test in history which I had been DREADING! Yes, I studied. I studied my head off! And you know what.... It was EASY! I just about laughed! Our study guide had been harder to do than the test. Thank you Dr. Shellman! Then I found out (only after getting there) that my favorite class was canceled. I spoke to my professor before she left. She explained that her husband had called her and all the roads around her house were closing because the Chattahoochee river was over flowing. She had to hurry and get home before she was blocked out.

So now that you just what kind of rainy day it was- Kat, Jamie, and I went out to buy frosting at Wal-Mart! Brave? Foolish? Both!? Probably. Because of the hard rains we decided to buy an umbrella. Wal-Mart didn't have umbrellas... They ran out. We were going to check the other stores near by, but come on! You know when Wal-Mart runs out of something fat chance someone else will have it!

So then once we get to Kat house Jamie has to leave anyways. Perhaps had he stayed our cake would have turned out better... Fortunately, Kat's Mom helped us once we messed it up.

The flavor of cake we chose to do was a scrumptious yellow cake. Kat had envisioned making a two layer cake with butter cream frosting and rainbow chips on top with some kind of lettering. Half way through the process we ran out of regular butter, but we use sweetened butter on the second cake mix! We baked them just right and they looked perfect! Then we goofed. In our excitement we tried to take the cakes out of their pans before they had cooled. A chunk of one cake's middle fell on the floor. Needless to say Whitney, Kat's dog, was happy. But with Kat's mom to the rescue, she preformed cake surgery and our two layer turned into a three layer! We were over joyed until Kat's sister said "It's still ugly." Well, it was, but it tasted good. (A sneaky ninja took a taste.) The end product looked like this...

^We totally ignored the back side. It feels cold and neglected.

I would show the progression pictures, but Kat still has them. These were taken when she brought the cake over to my house. If your wondering why it says "SASUKE FAIL5 UBERLY" is a long story in itself. Melanie was supposed to come bake cake with us so we put the name of her favorite character on there just for her. (We sent her pictures.)Also we called it our little fail cake so we added the "fail5 uberly". (Not to mention we ran out of "S"s and had to use numbers.) It was funny how it all strung together! It looks pretty good eve! Even though Kat's Sister made a cake with her friend and it look in, Kat's words, "mind blowingly fantastic" compared to ours. Er.... Our had character!

Lesson learned: I'm no Bakerella...

Pop Culture Field Trip

So seeing as how the last post was completely rushed, I now have some time to give a better report of the earlier portion of the week. There will be a part two for the cakes! : D

Back on Saturday, Hansy, my friends, and I went to AWA- Anime Weekend Atlanta!

^Melanie fell asleep on the way. If you look closely she has a mini baseball bat. We really hoped she wouldn't wake up from a nightmare with that thing.

^Carly and Melanie heading into the Cobb Galleria!

My only regret was that we didn't get to meet these two voice actors that were signing autographs and answering questions on panels. (One line was ridiculously long and the other guy wasn't around until after we had just left. ;_;)

They had some really cool exhibits though. We got to see a pikachu car, a Japanese rock band, and an art gallery with piece from artist all over the Atlanta/ Atlanta suburb areas.

^Melanie with a member of the Japanese rock group Peelander-Z. (They remind me of Power Rangers!)

It's also like a gigantic once a year market place with imported toys, clothes, and other stuff. We hauled off tons of awesome stuff. Hans bought an awesome shirt with penguins on it.

I bought a lot of art!(Because it's not as if I don't have enough art on my walls already.) Hans pointed out that I might have an obsession with pins and buttons, because I bought enough to cover one of my bags in them. Yay! Other than that I bought a lot of plushies and a really long eared bunny hat!

The best find of all the things I bought was a comic series called Tanpopo by Camilla d'Errico. I had no previous knowledge of who she was or any of her art, but I was so intrigued by the art on her booth I wanted a poster really badly! I began having a great conversation with the woman running the booth. She was very amiable and passionate about the art being sold. Rather than a poster, I chose to buy the comics because she had made them sound so fascinating. Lo and behold! She was the author/artist herself straight out of Canada! She even autographed both volumes for me!

The story itself a beautiful retelling of Faust with fantastic art. A devil appears to a emotionless girl who desires to know what feelings are in the form of a harmless little creature. He convinces her to give him her soul and in return he would teach her what emotions are. So far there are only two volumes, but I'm so excited I can hardly wait for the next books to come out!

Of course no Anime convention could ever be complete without cos-players!

Quick! Quick! Before I forget!

Wow! This past weekend was a huge blast! I went to AWA with Hansy and my friends. All of the people dressed up like characters was amazing and with so much stuff I didn’t know where to look first! Even though I stopped at every booth I know I didn’t see everything that they had to offer. When I get some time I write a fuller post with the pictures Hans and I took later!

On Monday, it rained, and rained, and then rained some more. Oh noes! We were flooded! Even so my friend Kat and I braved the tempest to go buy frosting and bake a cake. See! The cake isn't a lie! It's just ugly! But it was tasty! I’ll post pictures of that later after I get them from Kat. : D Well, I have to go to school now.

I just wanted to update with these awesome things so I don’t forget!

The "because I haven't posted" Post

Happy 09/09/09 day! Today is the last time we'll see the dates line up as single digits! : D Really nothing much is going on. Just going to work and school.

Hansy had a fantastic Birthday, especially because it fell on a long weekend with Labor Day. The celebration keeps going however because this weekend Hans and his friend Andrew are having special Birthday Concert! Yay!
